Founded by naval engineer Jaime Oliver, Oliver Design specialises in naval design and architecture.

Following his graduation in 1964, Jaime Oliver began his career launching and heading up Proyectos Navales, a subsidiary of the Astilleros Españoles group. He later founded Yates Revilo, which specialised in the building of pleasure crafts. In 1978, Oliver set up his own technical office, where he continued to create innovating designs for shipyards and owners around the world. In 1990, he set up Oliver Design to boost his international projection. The company flourished and in just a few years was diversifying to include not only design but also fitting-out of interiors and even complete superstructures to offer a comprehensive service to clients from all areas of the shipping industry.

After more than two decades, this family firm has built up an enviable reputation. Three generations of Olivers now work at the studio; alongside founder and CEO, Jamie is his son Iñigo Oliver Sr. –  who heads the technical and sales department – and grandson Iñigo Oliver Jr., one of the firm’s naval engineers. The rest of the staff is comprised of an outstanding team of highly-qualified professionals in the design office, backed by technicians of proven efficacy in fitting-out, and personnel from all the different areas involved in completing the work.

Oliver Design can undertake all the preliminary tasks required for commissioning vessels of all kinds. Its services include an array of specialised tasks in different areas, ranging from concept design to site supervision and including the development of the architectural and interior design.

Oliver Design’s chief added value is the creation of singular projects with a high degree of innovation and design. It is backed by a 25-year catalogue of designs including nearly 400 vessels of the most varied types: training ships, pleasure and tourist yachts, freight ships, fishing vessels, dredgers, ferries, cruisers, and others. Throughout the company’s history, it has won numerous international plaudits and awards, including several Shippax prizes for naval design.

Oliver Design stands in a unique location. Far from the usual industrial estates and city centre offices, the company designed and built its headquarters in natural surroundings. The studio is in Getxo (Bizkaia), just a stone’s throw from the La Galea cliffs, a vantage point overlooking the Bay of Biscay and Bilbao Port – which has been the largest port in Northern Spain since its foundation in the thirteenth century.
