Design a Face Mask Challenge
Face Masks are already being worn by people around the world as a way to protect themselves and prevent the spread of coronavirus. As discussed in our first Cruise Conversations episode with My Nguyen, Petu Kummala and Mike Oliver, when the cruise lines set sail again, it is likely to become a requirement for all guests and crew members to wear protective masks and the cruise lines will be looking to you!
As this might become the new norm, we are embracing the idea of wearing protective masks on a day-to-day basis and asking you, the design and hospitality community, to do the same by designing a mask that is practical, protective and still looks good!! That’s why we have launched the…
DESIGN A FACE MASK CHALLENGE
Anyone can take part, so don’t worry you don’t have to be a professional designer or textile company to enter and we’ll even let you team up with another company making it as easy as possible to design the perfect mask.
All masks will be judged by the cruise line executives on both Cruise Ship Interiors and Cruise Ship Hospitality Expo’s Advisory Boards and who knows – your design might even get picked up by a cruise line and put into production!
As a design challenge, we encourage you to be as creative as you can, the main goal will of course be that the masks are protective – but have fun with it!
Think about who might be wearing your mask? And where? We have come up with a few ideas to help envision the muse behind the mask:
- The Business Meeting Mask
- The Crew Member Mask
- The Wining and Dining Mask
- The Party Mask
- The Work Out Mask
- The Mask For Everyone
And if you don’t like any of these, feel free to choose your own!
The judges will be looking for specified features in your mask, so here are a few guidelines to follow (and help you win!):
- Cover nose & mouth
- A close fit but breathable
- Have adjustable straps to fit different size faces
- Attractive & stylish
- Reusable & hygienic – can be washed or put in microwave to kill virus after every use
- Branded with logo or name of designer
- Antimicrobial/antiviral fabric
- Sheer fabric – Imagine trying to order dinner in a busy restaurant without being able to lip read?!
To enter, you can simply post your image on social media with #csiedesignafacemask (but don’t forget to tag us!) or submit your design below.
Your design can be submitted either as a simple annotated sketch, full technical drawing, 3D render or a photo of your finished mask – it’s up to you!
Are you up to the challenge?
Entries close on 19th June 2020. The judges will then collectively decide the winners who will be shared for the whole industry to see!CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
