Over two days the free-to-attend Cruise Ship Interiors Europe Conference 2019 played host to 20 speakers from the world’s leading cruise lines, outfitting firms, and interior design studios. In a series of conference session, our esteemed speakers covered the industry’s key topics from design forecasting, sustainable cruise interiors and streamlining the refit process.

During the course of the conference, each and every session was filmed and we are delighted to have these available for you all to now watch whenever you like.

The pillars of great design include emphasis, scale, balance, unity, harmony, contrast, rhythm & repetition. Our distinguished panel of eminent leaders of cruise ship interior design share their views and experiences.

LEADERS’ DEBATE - PILLARS OF DESIGN

Adam D. Tihany brings to life the importance of creating a meaningful narrative in the development of thoughtful interior spaces that are tailored to each cruise line’s brand of hospitality and to the unique aspirations of the individual guest.

DEFINING THE NARRATIVE: CRUISING IN THE AGE OF DESIGN

As the modern cruise guest is becoming more aware of environmental impacts, how does this affect cruise ship interior design decisions, processes and practices? And how can we do more?

SUSTAINABLE CRUISE INTERIORS

This session will examine how best to go about balancing various aspects required for a vessel to meet the passenger needs, designer proposals, supplier abilities and legislator regulations.

INNOVATIVE MATERIALS

The design cycle of cruise ship interiors means that concepts & inventory are set a number of years before those vessels come into service. For a design to be long-lasting, it is important to take into account a number of parameters in relation to design forecasting.

DESIGN FORECASTING

In this session we look at the key questions in the specifications and procurement process such as How to get on the approved list? What are the Project Managers at the shipyard looking for? And supply to newbuild vs refurb: how do the processes differ?

SPECIFICATIONS & PROCUREMENT PROCESSES

With more time spent in cabins by river cruise guests than ever before, this panel will discus interesting ways of ensuring cabin designs deliver on comfort, facilities and brand. The panel will also explore the best methods for maintaining brand alliance across sister ships when expanding into river cruise from
a predominantly ocean cruise brand or vice versa.

RIVER CRUISE EXPERIENCE

Starting with the ship owner standpoint, this cross-disciplinary panel debates the challenges in the refit process from start to finish. A diverse panel covers owner, designer, ship yard, interior outfitter and manufacturer/supplier perspectives, and looks at ways each of those parties can work together.

STREAMLINING THE REFIT PROCESS

Expedition cruise interiors design is something of an unique juxtaposition between minimalism , luxury and the use of ‘toys’ which demand both space to store and the practical space in which guests can transition from interior to a harsh exterior when out on excursions.

DESIGN IMPERATIVES FOR EXPEDITION INTERIORS

From examining the influences on future guests and their expectations, to some of the wider impacts of global trends. How will the micro and macro drivers shape the design and build of tomorrow’s cruise ship interiors?
